Blackwater Nursing home is located in the East coast of Ireland in County Wexford. This facility was designed to cater for the increasing demand for step down care within this region. The facility is located in a rural setting close the village of Blackwater. The facility is a 90 bed nursing home with 24 independent living units with associated day spaces centered around a central courtyard. The facility provides 24 hour care to its residents and has a mix of one and two bedroom suites. In designing the Nursing home we were focused on a comfortable and homely environment, which would foster a sense of community between residents, staff, and visitors. This has been done by creating internal streets, instead of your traditional corridors and being mindful of both internal and external spaces, which encourage and prompt wellbeing.
